Underground Asset Register Key Focus For UK’s Geospatial Strategy Next Year

The report published on 22 June by the Geospatial Commission was headed by minister of state at the cabinet office Nicholas True. The Geospatial Commission is an independent committee set up by the government in 2018 and appointed commissioners in 2019. It is responsible for setting the UK’s geospatial strategy – which aims to unlock the economic, social and environmental opportunities offered by location data – and coordinating public sector geospatial activity. In an introduction to the report True said that the commission would continue to roll out the National Underground Assets Register (NUAR), a project to map the UK’s underground pipes and cables, in North East England, London and Wales this year.
